Introducing our new head chef

Meet Andy Britton

In 2017 we said goodbye to our much loved head chef Nick Wentworth, who has been delivering our first-rate food since 2002. Nick has now moved away from the hospitality business, and goes with our considerable thanks and very best wishes.

We are thrilled to introduce Andy Britton as the new head of our kitchen team. Andy is an award-winning chef who honed his skills under such culinary greats as Albert Roux and Michael Caines, and has previously delighted diners at Bishopstrow House and the Macdonald Bath Spa.

His passion is delivering the finest local ingredients available from “field to fork”. He loves to chat to his guests, discovering the flavours and combinations they most enjoy, in order to become their personal chef.

In 2018, expect to see some exciting new offerings such as the introduction of a new Howard’s House Dining Club, an intimate evening in which guests can place their experience entirely in Andy’s hands and enjoy his personal selections, with wines to match.

Andy lives locally in Warminster and has been looking for some time for the kind of individual opportunity which a private, family owned business such as Howard’s House offers. He delivers a perfect marriage between the fine, fresh, locally sourced food which comprises the heart of Howard’s House, with a refreshing injection of flair unique to his particular talents. Expect to see the food you love on our menus, with some exciting new twists.

Join us soon to sample Andy’s skills for yourself!

The Call of the Wild
Foraging for Nature’s Hidden Treasures

There’s nothing we prize more than the wealth of delicious seasonal ingredients on our
doorstep. In spring 2017 we introduced the opportunity for guests to experience the authentic
delights of our bountiful surroundings, guided by our expert Shannon.

Our Seasonal Food Experiences involve a foraging walk with our expert Shannon (who is also
responsible for designing and nurturing our beautiful gardens) and a practical morning session
with our kitchen team, involving the chance to learn simple but effective chef’s secrets,
including some delicious ideas and recipes to take home. This is followed by a three course
lunch utilising the morning’s discoveries, in our beautiful Coach House.

Seasonal Food Workshops are priced at £75 per person, including a morning workshop and
seasonal lunch.

Due to the success of our spring Foraging Lunches, we are now offering bespoke experiences. If
you have a group of friends, family or colleagues (minimum 4 people) and would like to enjoy a
foraging experience, then please contact Simon on 01722 716 392 /

Introducing… the Coach House
Bringing History to Life

In summer 2016 we unveiled a very exciting new development.

In an undertaking involving a team of over twenty dedicated craftsmen, we resurrected the original
Coach House of Howard’s House, restoring it to its former glory and restyling it as a luxurious space
suitable for parties, events and business functions.

The formerly disused Coach House now boasts a stunning hospitality space featuring beautifully
crafted stonework and airy 5m ceilings. The space has been thoughtfully designed with elegant,
comfortable seating, a cosy log burner, and classic décor including striking artworks and a
magnificent 19th century mirror.

The Coach House now caters for private events, including:

  • Private parties and functions
  • Meetings, conferences and training sessions
  • Celebratory occasions
  • Afternoon tea, buffets and drinks receptions

The team at Howard’s House were delighted to welcome Lord Thurso, President of the Tourism
Society*, to officially declare the Coach House open for business. “As the truly discerning know, real
luxury is time, space, and personal hospitality. Howard’s House has been delivering it with charm
and style for years. The newly restored Coach House is another wonderful addition to this secret
gem,” said Lord Thurso.

In recent years the hotel has received national acclaim from industry experts including Sally Shalam,
Fiona Duncan and Tom Chesshyre for its beautiful location, commitment to the highest standards of
hospitality, and excellent seasonal cooking.

Now the Howard’s House team look forward to this new opportunity to enhance and build upon
their existing business. “Howard’s House is a very special place,” says Partner Simon Greenwood.
“Our commitment is to retaining our ‘home from home’ approach to hospitality, to creating a
memorable, personalised experience for every guest.”

For further information on the Coach House or to discuss private or business events, please
contact Simon Greenwood on or 01722 716 392.

*Lord Thurso is President of the Tourism Society and Chairman of Visit Scotland. Trained by the Savoy Group, John became Europe’s youngest five star general manager when appointed to run the Lancaster in Paris – the start of a long and illustrious career in hospitality which saw him create Cliveden – Britain’s highest rated hotel – before moving on to be CEO of Granfel Holdings, owners of East Sussex National Club, and then rescuing Champneys where he starred in the TV documentary Trouble at the Top: Shape up with Lord Thurso. A hereditary peer, he sat in the House of Lords, was then elected an MP and is now back in the Lords – the only person to have been ‘there and back again’.
